Redmond, Wa., USA - November 13, 2012, Redmond, Wa., USA - Microsoft Corp. announced that Windows and Windows Live president Steven Sinofsky is leaving the company and that Julie Larson-Green is promoted to lead all Windows software and hardware engineering, effective November 12, 2012.

Mr. Sinofsky was the President of the Windows Division at Microsoft from July 2009. Mr. Sinofsky joined Microsoft as a software design engineer in July 1989.
He joined the team as the director of program management in 1994, and led the design of the shared technologies in Microsoft Office 95 and Microsoft Office 97.
He spent about four years as a software design engineer and project lead in the Development Tools group, where he helped lead the development of the first versions of the Microsoft Foundation Classes C++ library for Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Visual C++.
Mr. Sinofsky previously oversaw the development of the Microsoft Office system of programs, servers and services, responsible for the product development of Microsoft Office 2007 and its new ribbon UI.
Prior to that he also oversaw the development of Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft Office XP, and Microsoft Office 2000.
Mr. Sinofsky received his bachelors degree from Cornell University (Arts and Sciences, 1987) and a masters degree in computer science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (1989).
Since 1993, Ms. Larson-Green has worked on and led some of the most successful products for Microsoft, including the user experiences for early versions of Internet Explorer, and helped drive the thinking behind the refresh of the user experience for Microsoft Office.
For Windows 7 and Windows 8 she was responsible for program management, user interface design and research, as well as development of all international releases.
She has a master's degree in software engineering from Seattle University and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Western Washington University.
Tami Reller retains her roles as chief financial officer and chief marketing officer and will assume responsibility for the business of Windows.
Ms. Reller joined Windows in 2007 from the Microsoft Dynamics Division where she held a number of leadership positions.
She began her career in technology at Great Plains Software in 1984 while still in college, and was the company’s chief financial officer at the time the company was acquired by Microsoft in 2001. ■
