London, United Kingdom – UBS Global Asset Management announced the appointment of Thomas Wels as head of its global real estate business, effective December 1, 2012.[break]
Mr. Wels has been with the firm since 2005 and a member of the Executive Committee since 2007.
Mr. Wels was appointed Chief Operating Offcer of UBS Global Asset Management in April 2010. He is a member of the UBS Global Asset Management Executive Committee. He also chairs the
Business Support Committee and is a member of the Risk Committee and the Global Products and Markets Committee. Mr. Wels will replace Paul Marcuse as head of UBS GAM's real estate division.
Paul Marcuse, Head of Global Real Estate since 2007 and a Group Managing Director, will be leaving the firm.
Mr. Marcuse has led the division for almost six years after previously running Axa’s property division. Prior to his tenure at Axa, Mr. Marcuse was an investment banker at Goldman Sachs and head of European property at UBS before it merged with Swiss Bank Corporation. He had also been finance director at Dutch real estate fund Rodamco.
UBS Global AM has also appointed Richard Johnson as Global Head of Business Development for Global Real Estate, effective 3 December.
Mr. Johnson was appointed as Head of Business Development for Asia Pacific within UBS Global Asset Management’s Global Real Estate business in October 2010. Over the past 24 years, he has been involved in all aspects of the real estate investment, development, fund raising and financing cycles. He has led transactions in North America, Africa, Europe and Asia.
Prior to joining UBS, he was CEO at Standard Chartered Asian Real Estate Fund, Managing Director at Istithmar and International Director at Jones Lang LaSalle. He is an Independent Director of one of Singapore’s major REITs.
