NOOK Media strengthens executive leadership team

In his new role, Mr. Veerina will oversee all of NOOK Media operations, including Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, IT, Digital Services, Device Operations, Research & Development, Device Product Management, and User Interaction & Design.

Mr. Veerina is a longtime Silicon Valley entrepreneur and technology executive with more than 24 years experience in building and operating technology companies from early stage through the growth stage. In his new role, Mr. Veerina will oversee all of NOOK Media operations, including Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, IT, Digital Services, Device Operations, Research & Development, Device Product Management, and User Interaction & Design.

Mr. Veerina is a longtime Silicon Valley entrepreneur and technology executive with more than 24 years experience in building and operating technology companies from early stage through the growth stage. In addition, he has led and re-engineered large teams with world-class companies such as Nokia and Motorola.

Prior to joining NOOK Media, Mr. Veerina founded several companies, including Azingo, Inc., a mobile software technology company he later sold to Motorola in 2010. He then joined Motorola and until 2012 led the global software and cloud services team at Motorola Mobility.

Prior to that, Mr. Veerina founded and served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Ramp Networks, Inc., a provider of Internet security and broadband solutions for small offices, which he sold to Nokia in 2001. He then joined Nokia as Vice President of Nokia Internet Communications, where he successfully integrated Ramp’s engineering, product management, sales and support organizations into Nokia and developed a strategic plan to grow the business worldwide in Nokia channels.

Mr. Veerina graduated with a Master of Science in Computer Engineering from Purdue University. He also received a Master of Science in Electronics from Andhra University and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Nagarjuna University, India.

In his new role, Mr. Carlson will lead and oversee Digital Content, NOOK Press, NOOK Marketing, as well as NOOK Media Creative Services.

Mr. Carlson has more than 33 years of experience at leading companies in digital publishing, hospitality, beverage, ski resorts and real estate. Most recently, he was Executive Chairman and Managing Director for Zinio, the world’s largest digital magazine newsstand for six years.

In 2007, he partnered with Barnes & Noble.com to launch the company’s online "See Inside" digital book preview feature. Mr. Carlson also worked with Barnes & Noble when NOOK was launched in 2009, providing back-end support for the NOOK Newsstand.

Prior to Zinio, Mr. Carlson was the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of FIJI Water, which became the second highest-selling imported bottled water in the U.S. during his nine-year tenure. He also served as Senior Vice President of The Aspen Skiing Company, Aspen’s leading hospitality entity and owner of all four ski areas in Aspen.
