Paris, France - September 10, 2012, Paris, France - Alcatel-Lucent, a global telecommunications equipment corporation, announces the following changes, effective January 1, 2013.

Paul Tufano becomes Chief Operating Officer, with worldwide responsibility for Supply Chain, Procurement and three individual focused businesses (Enterprise, Strategic Industries and Submarine), in addition to his current role as Chief Financial Officer.
Mr. Tufano is Executive Vice President of Alcatel-Lucent and Chief Financial Officer. He is a member of the Alcatel-Lucent Management Committee. Most recently, Mr. Tufano served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Solectron Corporation ("Solectron") from January 2006 to October 2007 and as Interim Chief Executive Officer from February 2007 to October 2007.
Prior to joining Solectron, Mr. Tufano was President and Chief Executive Officer at Maxtor Corporation from February 2003 to November 2004. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from April 2001 and as Chief Financial Officer from July 1996 at Maxtor Corporation. From 1979 until he joined Maxtor Corporation in 1996, he held a variety of management positions in finance and operations at IBM.
Mr. Tufano holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from St. John’s University in New York and a Masters of Business Administration, Finance, Accounting and International Business from Columbia University in New York.
Robert Vrij becomes President Global Sales & Marketing, leading a single global sales organization to oversee and manage all customer-facing commercial relationships.
Mr. Vrij is Executive Vice President of Alcatel-Lucent and President of the Americas region, as well as a member of the company’s Management Committee. In addition, he is head of all Alcatel-Lucent’s global Strategic Alliances including Hewlett Packard, and also is a director of LGS, an independent subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent dedicated solely to serving the U.S. Federal Government.
Mr. Vrij is head of Alcatel-Lucent’s critical alliance with HP in the IT and telecommunications markets. Most recently he was president and CEO of Openwave Systems, a provider of software applications and infrastructure.
Prior to that, Mr. Vrij was the Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing Solutions with Genband Inc., a provider of IP solutions to service providers. He also held senior sales positions with Nextiraone (now Blackbox), a reseller of converged telephony products for the enterprise market.
Previously, Mr. Vrij held leadership positions with Lucent Technologies including responsibility for the company’s wireline business in the Europe and Middle East Region. At AT&T he held a number of sales, marketing and management positions with AT&T’s global and regional joint ventures including as Director of Worldwide Voice and Data Services and channel management operations.
Mr. Vrij received his Bachelor of Business Administration (Marketing) degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas and a Masters of Business Administration from St. Thomas University in Houston, Texas. He has served on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association) and as a board member of CTM (Institute for Communication Technology Management).
Stephen A. Carter becomes President Managed Services & EVP Corporate Restructuring; overseeing the Performance Program and Corporate Marketing & Corporate Communications.
Mr. Carter is Executive Vice President of Alcatel-Lucent and President of the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. He is also Chief Corporate Marketing and Communications Officer and is a member of the Alcatel-Lucent Management Committee. Mr. Carter has held a variety of senior executive roles in the media and telecommunications industry, including the founding chief executive of Ofcom (the UK Communications Regulator); managing director of NTL UK & Ireland; and he has also been the chief executive of two marketing service businesses - J. Walter Thompson UK Limited and the Brunswick Group LLP.
Most recently, Mr. Carter served as the Minister in the UK Government for the Communications, Technology & Broadcasting Sector, where he was the author of the Digital Britain Report, and the follow on Digital Economy Act 2010. Mr. Carter is a law graduate from Aberdeen University, and also completed the HBS AMP.
Mr. Carter is a past chairman of the Marketing Group of Great Britain, and has served on the board of a number of companies. He is currently chairman of the Board of Governors at the Ashridge Business School, is a non-executive director of Informa plc, and 2Wire Inc. He is a trustee of The Royal Shakespeare Company, and a vice president of UNICEF UK. Mr. Carter was awarded a CBE for services to the communications industry, and is a Life Peer.
Philippe Keryer becomes President of Networks & Platforms.
Mr. Keryer is Executive Vice President of Alcatel-Lucent and President, Networks operating segment. He is a member of the Alcatel-Lucent Management Committee. Prior to his current role, Mr. Keryer was President of the Alcatel-Lucent Mobile Access Division, responsible for the GSM, UMTS and WiMAX radio access businesses. Previous to that role he was President of the Alcatel-Lucent GSM/WiMAX Division. ■
