Phoenix, Az., USA - January 16, 2014, Phoenix, Az., USA - PetSmart, Inc., a specialty pet retailer, announced it has made changes to its management team and organizational structure in conjunction with the retirement of Joseph O'Leary, president and COO.

Mr. O'Leary joined PetSmart as senior vice president of Supply Chain in September 2006. He was appointed senior vice president of Merchandising and Supply Chain in October 2008. In January 2011, he was promoted to executive vice president of Merchandising, Marketing, Supply Chain and Strategic Planning. In June 2013, he was named president and chief operating officer.
Prior to joining PetSmart, Mr. O'Leary served as chief operating officer for Interactive Health, a company that makes robotic massage chairs. He also served six years with Gap, Inc., where he started as the vice president of International Logistics before being promoted to senior vice president of Global Logistics and ultimately, senior vice president of Supply Chain Strategy and Global Logistics. Prior to that, he held positions at Mothercare and Bhs (UK), Coopers & Lybrand and BP International.
PetSmart does not intend to replace the COO position and will realign these responsibilities among four newly created Executive Vice President positions, with David K. Lenhardt assuming the title of President and CEO.
Mr. Lenhardt joined PetSmart in October 2000, as senior vice president of Services, Strategic Planning and Business Development. He was appointed senior vice president, Store Operations and Services in February 2007, and, in February 2009, became the senior vice president, Store Operations and Human Resources.
In January 2011, he became executive vice president, assuming additional responsibility for Information Systems. He was appointed president and chief operating officer in January 2012. In June 2013, he was named chief executive officer.
From 1996 to 2000, he was with Bain & Company, Inc., where he led consulting teams for retail, technology and e-commerce clients. Prior to that, Mr. Lenhardt was an analyst in the corporate finance and Latin American groups of Merrill Lynch & Co.'s investment banking division.
As part of the new structure, PetSmart is creating a new position – EVP of Customer Experience, Strategic Planning and Corporate Development.
Carrie Teffner, who is currently Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer, will now serve as Executive Vice President and CFO with responsibilities for overseeing Finance and IS.
Matt McAdam, who is currently Senior Vice President of Merchandising, will now serve as Executive Vice President of Merchandising and Real Estate.
Bruce Thorn, who is currently Senior Vice President of Store Operations and Services, will now serve as Executive Vice President of Store Operations, Services and Supply Chain. ■
