Newark, N.J, USA - March 17, 2014, Newark, N.J, USA - Prudential Financial, Inc., announced that Robert Axel has been promoted to senior vice president, controller and principal accounting officer, succeeding Peter Sayre.

Mr. Axel joined Prudential in 2001 as vice president, controller for the company’s general account investment portfolio. He was named deputy controller in 2010 with responsibility for monitoring and implementing new accounting standards and ensuring company-wide compliance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and statutory accounting standards.
Prior to joining Prudential, Mr. Axel was a senior manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he oversaw independent audits of several major real estate and financial services companies.
He earned a B.A. in Accounting from Franklin & Marshall College and is a certified public accountant. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA) and represents Prudential on the Accounting Committee of the American Council of Life Insurers. He also serves on the AICPA’s Financial Reporting Executive Committee and has served on the Financial Accounting Standard Board’s User Advisory Council.
Mr. Sayre serves as Treasurer and Director of Achieve, Inc. He has been Corporate Controller and Senior Vice President of The Prudential Insurance Company of America, an Investment Manager of Prudential Variable Contract Real Property Account since 2004 and also serves as its Principal Accounting Officer. He served as Principal Accounting Officer and Controller of Prudential Financial Inc. from August 31, 2004 to March 2014 and served as its Senior Vice President since August 31, 2004.
He served as the Chief Tax Officer of Prudential Financial Inc., from December 2001 to May 2005. He has been with Prudential Financial Inc. or its affiliates since March 1985. Over the years he has held a number of legal and finance positions with Prudential Financial Inc. or its affiliates. He served as Corporate Vice President and Associate Comptroller of The Prudential Insurance Company of America from June 1994 to 2000. From March 2000 to May 2005, he served as Chief Tax Officer of The Prudential Insurance Company of America.
Mr. Sayre served as Vice President of Prudential Financial Inc. from 2001 to September 2004. He worked briefly on the Audit Staff of Price Waterhouse in New York City and attained his Certified Public Accountant designation. ■
