Swindon, United Kingdom - RWE npower, an energy company, announced that the group chief executive, Volker Beckers, will step down from his role at the end of December 2012.

Mr. Beckers was appointed as Group Chief Executive Officer, RWE npower in January 2010.
Prior to this, from November 2003, he held the position of Group Chief Financial Officer, RWE npower.
Before joining RWE npower, he was Vice President Corporate Controlling and Development at RWE Net AG in Dortmund and from February 2003 was also responsible for Organisational Development.
Before that, he held several senior positions in the RWE Group in different parts of the energy value chain.
His last position before the merger with VEW Energie AG was Head of Controlling of the grid business unit in Essen.
After graduating from Cologne University with a master’s degree in business administration, he worked for Compunet Computer AG (later General Electric, Capital Services) as Head of the Training and Education Centre and then moved to the management consultancy part of the business as Division Manager responsible for Project Management methods and IT Development Projects.
In addition to his role at RWE npower, Mr. Beckers is Deputy Head of the Executive Commercial Management Committee at BDEW (German Association of Energy and Water Industries), a member of the Advisory Board of EUCERS (EU Centre for Energy and Resource Security at King’s College) and Councillor of the German-British Chamber of Industry & Commerce.
He is a member of The Worshipful Company of Fuellers and Fellow of the Energy Institute, Chairman of the Business and Energy Forum, and member of the Advisory Board member of RWE Supply and Trading. Volker Beckers was a member of the Finance and Economics Focus Group at Eurelectric until 2010.
Volker Beckers will continue to work for RWE npower in a senior advisory capacity.
He will be succeeded as Chief Executive on 1 January 2013 by Paul Massara, currently RWE npower’s Chief Commercial Officer.
Mr. Massara was appointed as Chief Commercial Officer of RWE npower in September 2011.
Before joining RWE npower, Mr. Massara was President of Genesis Capital Corporation, a private equity business based in Toronto.
He has extensive commercial experience having held senior executive roles for Centrica Plc for the last 10 years including sitting on the UK Executive Committee.
His last role with the company was as President of Canadian Operations for Direct.
Mr. Massara was also responsible for home services, sales and customer experience on a North American basis.
He has extensive experience in deregulation, corporate finance, marketing, sales, customer experience, risk management and trading as it relates to the energy and service sectors both in Europe and North America.
Mr. Massara was voted Top 40 Under 40 in Canada in 2005 and was a Board member of the Toronto Board of Trade and also several charitable organizations.
In 2007 he was appointed to the Mayors Fiscal Review Panel with the remit of reviewing the City’s medium term fiscal plan. ■
