Saipem appoints Francesco Caio as CEO and general manager

Milan, Italy - Saipem, an oilfield services company, appoints Francesco Caio as chief executive officer and general manager.

Francesco Caio holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from INSEAD Fontainebleau, France.

Mr. Caio has considerable experience in Italy and abroad as Chief Executive Officer of multinational companies, both public and private, operating in the industrial sector, in advanced technology, finance and telecommunications such as Olivetti, Omnitel, Merloni Eldo SpA, Netscalibur, Lehman Brothers and Avio.

Mr. Caio has been on the board of directors for multinationals in the United States, England, France and Italy for such companies as Equant, Motorola, Università Bocconi, Gruppo Sole 24 Ore, Invensys plc, Alcatel Lucent, Confindustria, Politecnico di Milano and BNL SpA.

He was a Director for the Government initiative on digital technologies and broadband.

From 2014 to 2017, he was Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Poste Italiane.

In 2018 he became Chairman of Saipem and in 2020 ha was also appointed Chairman of the Board of ITA (Italia Trasporti Aerei).

Saipem set the number of Board Directors at nine and appointed the new Board of Directors for the years 2021, 2022 and 2023.

The new Board comprises: Silvia Merlo, Francesco Caio, Roberto Diacetti, Alessandra Ferone, Patrizia Michela Giangualano, Pier Francesco Ragni, Marco Reggiani, Paul Simon Schapira and Paola Tagliavini.

The company appointed Silvia Merlo as Chairman of the Board of Directors at the joint proposal of the Shareholders Eni S.p.A. and CDP Industria S.p.A.

Graduated in Business Economics from Liuc di Castellanza (Varese), Ms. Merlo is CEO of the Merlo Spa.
