Southwest Airlines promotes Mike Van de Ven to president

Dallas, Tx., USA - Southwest Airlines said chief operating officer Mike Van de Ven was named president.

Mr. Van de Ven joined Southwest Airlines in 1993.

Mr. Van de Ven provides Executive Leadership to many departments including Internal Audit, Business Continuity, Emergency Response, Enterprise Risk Management, Air Operations, Ground Operations, Technical Operations, Customer Support and Services, Network Operations Control, Safety and Security, Operational Strategy and Performance, Labor Relations, and Hospitality Operations Support, which includes the Company's President's Council and Hospitality efforts.

Mr. Van de Ven has held several positions at Southwest, including Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President of Aircraft Operations, Senior Vice President of Planning, Vice President Financial Planning and Analysis, and Director of Internal Audit. Prior to joining Southwest, Mike was a Senior Audit Manager at Ernst and Young in Dallas, where Southwest Airlines was one of his first clients.

He received a B.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin, where he serves on the McCombs School of Business Advisory Council.
