Fort McMurray, AB, Canada - March 10, 2014, Fort McMurray, AB, Canada - Syncrude Canada Ltd, a producer of synthetic crude oil from oil sands, announces that Mark Ward will become Syncrude’s new chief executive officer, effective April 1, 2014.

Mr. Ward brings more than 35 years of technical and leadership experience with ExxonMobil. Mr. Ward was most recently the Lead Country Manager Nigeria and Manager Production Nigeria with ExxonMobil Production Company.
Mr. Ward joined Mobil in 1980 and worked for Mobil Exploration of Producing U.S. where he held various technical and managerial positions from 1980-1987. In 1987, he transferred to Mobil Oil Indonesia, and became the manager of the Mobil's Arun Field production operations. In 1991, he transferred to Mobil's corporate headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia, where he held various advisory and planning positions in the E&P Division and the Strategic Venturers group.
In 1994, he transferred to Mobil Producing Nigeria, where he was the Capital Projects Manager based in Lagos, Nigeria. In 1997, he was appointed as Sr. Vice President of Mobil Oil Canada, where he had responsibility for the exploration and producing operations for Mobil's Western Canada portfolio. In April 1999, Mr. Ward was transferred to Caracas, Venezuela as Executive Director of Mobil Oil de Venezuela and Senior Vice President, Exploration and Production.
Mr. Ward received his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1980.
Syncrude President and Chief Executive Officer Scott Sullivan is returning to ExxonMobil effective May 1, 2014.
Mr. Sullivan’s new assignment is Business Development Manager and Lead Country Manager, China. Mr. Sullivan was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Syncrude Canada Ltd. in July 2010. He came to Syncrude from Quanzhou, China, where he served as Vice President of the Fujian Refining and Petrochemical Company, a joint venture between ExxonMobil, Saudi Aramco, Sinopec and the Fujian provincial government.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree (Honours) in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. ■
