TAQA announces leadership succession
After six years at TAQA, Carl Sheldon has decided to step down as Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board of Directors, effective at the Annual General Meeting in April.
Mr. Sheldon was appointed as member of the Board and then as TAQA’s Chief Executive Officer in 2011. Previously, Mr Sheldon held positions with TAQA as General Counsel, Deputy General Manager and General Manager.
Before joining TAQA in 2008, he was a Partner with Allen & Overy LLP, where his main focus was the energy sector. During more than 20 years of practice, he has been involved in many major international oil, gas and power projects.
At Allen & Overy, he was also instrumental in building the firm’s German and United States operations.
Mr. Sheldon is a qualified lawyer admitted to practice in New York and in England. He holds a Master’s degree from Cambridge University and is a United States national.
He will remain as Chairman of Jorf Lasfar Energy Company (JLEC), TAQA’s newly-listed Moroccan power business, and will serve as an Advisor to the Board of Directors of TAQA.
The leadership model at TAQA will change. His Excellency Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi, Vice Chairman, will take up a part-time executive role assuming responsibility for TAQA’s government and strategic relations and external affairs.
Mr. Al-Nuaimi serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board and was originally appointed to the Board in 2005. He is also Director General and Director of the Privatization Directorate of the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) and serves on the boards of a number of its subsidiaries, including Abu Dhabi Distribution Company and Al Ain Distribution Company. He also serves on the board of First Energy Bank.
Before joining TAQA, he held the positions of Chairman of Al Wathba Central Services Company, Deputy Chairman of Al Ain Distribution Company, Deputy Managing Director of Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Company, Director of Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company, Director of Oman Insurance Company and Senior Analyst at ADIA.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from UAE University.
Edward LaFehr takes on the newly-created role of Chief Operating Officer, based in Abu Dhabi.
Mr. LaFehr, served as Senior Vice President at Talisman Energy Inc. responsible for the company’s Canadian business with assets across Alberta, Saskatchewan and northeast British Columbia.
Prior to Talisman, Mr. LaFehr held a variety of positions with BP in the United States, Egypt, the North Sea and Trinidad and Tobago.
Mr. LaFehr holds a Master of Science in Geophysics from Stanford University and a Master of Science in Mineral Economics from the Colorado School of Mines. ■
