San Jose, Ca., USA - May 7, 2009, San Jose, Ca., USA - The FlexTech Alliance announced that Thomas T. Edman of Applied Materials, Inc. has been elected chairman of the Governing Board.

The alliance also reports that it has appointed industry experts Janice Mahon of Universal Display Corp., Keith Cook of Philips and Charles Weidner of Cytec Industries Inc., to its board. Edman, who currently serves as corporate vice president & general manager of corporate business development at Applied Materials, replaces Dr. Michael McCreary of E Ink, who served as FlexTech's chairman since 2007.
As Applied Materials' Corporate Vice President & General Manager of Corporate Business Development, Tom Edman is responsible for mergers and acquisitions, corporate strategy, venture investing and macroeconomic analysis. Prior to joining Applied Materials, Edman was president & CEO of Applied Films, a capital equipment company supplying the display, solar and architectural glass industries. He holds a bachelor's degree in East Asian studies from Yale University and a master's degree in business administration from the Wharton School of Business. Formerly, Edman served as chairman of the American Electronics Association.
Janice Mahon was appointed vice president of technology commercialization at Universal Display Corporation in January 1997 and became the general manager of the company's Materials Supply Business in January 2007. Mahon received her bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1979 and master's degree in business administration from Harvard University in 1984.
Keith Cook is currently vice president of Technology Policy and Standards for Lighting at Philips. In this role, he works closely with various government agencies and industrial trade organizations developing regulations and standards for more efficient lighting. Besides actively participating on many NEMA lighting sections such as lamps, luminaires and solid state lighting, Cook is also chairman of the Next Generation Lighting Initiative Alliance.
Charles Weidner is marketing and business development manager for Cytec Industries Inc., a global specialty chemicals and materials company. The company develops, manufactures and sells value-added products into a diverse range of end markets including aerospace, adhesives, automotive and industrial coatings, chemical intermediates, electronics, inks, mining and plastics. In this role, he is responsible for the company's growth initiatives in display and photovoltaic applications. Weidner holds bachelor's degrees in chemical engineering and economics from the University of Pennsylvania, the latter from its Wharton School of Business. ■
