Vulcan Materials announces leadership appointments

Birmingham, Ala., USA - November 2, 2012, Birmingham, Ala., USA - Vulcan Materials Company, a producer of construction aggregates, announces Danny R. Shepherd as EVP, COO and the following leadership changes.




Mr. Shepherd served as senior vice president, construction materials-east. Mr. Shepherd rejoined Vulcan in 2002 as president of Vulcan's Southeast Division after serving in executive positions with Global Stone Corporation and Oglebay Norton. Prior to his positions with Global Stone and Oglebay Norton, Mr. Shepherd served as vice president and general manager, Georgia for Vulcan's Southeast Division. Mr. Shepherd is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Robert A. Wason IV, Senior Vice President, General Counsel, will retire from Vulcan at the end of October 2013, and will assume the role of Senior Advisor to the Executive Management Team until that time.

Upon his hire in 1988, Mr. Wason spent four years as the senior vice president and general counsel before working as executive vice president of administrative and business development of the Company’s Chemicals Division and eventually as president of the Performance Chemicals Business Unit. Before returning to his current role in 2009, Mr. Wason spent eleven years as the senior vice president of corporate development.

Prior to joining Vulcan in 1988, Mr. Wason was a partner for Jenner & Block LLP and served as assistant general counsel for U.S. Gypsum Company. A Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude graduate of Duke University, Mr. Wason also has a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif.
