Peruvian fruit exports grow by 236% in five years
The value of these exports went from $537.7 million in 2010 to $1,806.9 million in 2015, based on shipments of grapes, avocados, mangoes, bananas, tangerines, nuts, and cranberries, among the leading products, the INEI said.
The dynamism in blueberry exports allowed to them to increase from $32.4 million in 2010 to $96.8 million in 2010, which is equivalent to an average annual increase of 395.5%.
Other products that had a growing trend were grapes (30.3%), avocados (29.1%), bananas (23.5%), mango (19.5%), and tangerines (13.5%).
According to data from the National Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat), the United States and the Netherlands were the main destinations for Peruvian exports of edible fruits and nuts. Peru exported $1,428.1 billion of this products between January and October 2016.
In the first 10 months of 2016, the United States was the main destination, with exports that amounted to $414.4 million, followed by the Netherlands with $360 million.
Fruit and nut exports led non-traditional goods exports, as they were 12.6% higher than in the same period of 2015. ■
