Officials from the Secretary of State for Trade, the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Trade in London, the Customs Department and the Ministry of Agriculture informed exporting sectoral associations and organizations of the current situation of global trade with the United Kingdom, after his departure from Brexit, within the framework of the Brexit Channel meetings.

The level of Spanish exports to the United Kingdom has recovered to levels similar to those before the pandemic and Brexit, although the growth in exports is less than what has been experienced in relation to other EU countries, according to the Economic and Commercial Minister of Spain in London, Álvaro Nadal, the Spanish federation of associations of producers and exporters of fruits, vegetables, flowers and live plants, FEPEX reports.
Regarding the different phases that the United Kingdom has established for the control of imported goods, after Brexit, multiple sources and institutions suggest that the English government will announce a delay in the entry into force of the phases that were planned to will start in the next few months.
In the field of the fruit and vegetable sector, the first phase of the controls imposed by the United Kingdom on imports began with the definitive exit of this country from the EU, on January 1, 2021 and meant that Community exports of fruit and vegetables fresh must be accompanied by a customs declaration (DUA) and a certificate of conformity with marketing standards.
Soon, on July 1, a new period of requirements is expected to come into force, and one of them is that all merchandise must be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate, an aspect that worries the sector grouped in FEPEX because it can be a barrier to maintaining the normal flow of fruit and vegetable trade.
Canal Brexit is a collaboration body between the administration and the exporting sectors, promoted by the Secretary of State for Trade, to identify and try to resolve the difficulties of trade with the United Kingdom after the entry into force of Brexit.
The seventh meeting, held on April 25 by videoconference, was chaired by the General Director of Commercial Policy, Juan Francisco Martinez, and included the participation of Spain's Economic and Commercial Counselor in the United Kingdom, officials from the Department of Customs and Excise Duties and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. ■
