Ukraine grain harvest totals 6.5 million tonnes so far

All Ukrainian regions have started the 2017 grain harvest, threshing 6.5 million tonnes of grain with an average yield of 3.18 tonnes per hectare, the agriculture ministry said.

Farmers have harvested 2.0 million hectares of grain as of July 14, the ministry said in a statement.

The Ukrainian grain area came to 14.3 million hectares in 2017, including 6.28 million of wheat, 4.47 million of maize, 2.46 million of barley and around 1 million hectares of other grains and cereals.

The ministry said farmers had harvested 3.1 million tonnes of wheat, 2.96 million tonnes of barley, 477,000 tonnes of peas and 445,000 tonnes of rapeseed.

The ministry gave no forecast for the full 2017 grain harvest, which analysts and weather forecasters estimate at 59 million to 62 million tonnes, including 23 million to 25 million tonnes of wheat.

Ukraine harvested a record 66 million tonnes of grain in 2016.
