This is according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS). In Romania, 63.5% of the total agricultural production, i.e. 43.8 billion euros, was generated from crop production, including grain crops, which accounted for 33.7%, vegetables and melons, with 21%, and fruit and grapes crops, which contributed 10.3%, according to the source.

Compared to the previous year, crop production has declined by 10.4%.

While the value of vegetable crops and melons, as well as oil plants, increased by 3.8 percentage points and 0.9 percentage points, respectively, that of potato crops and grain crops fell by 3.4 and 1.2 percentage points.

For fruit and grapes, the value remained stabled. "The crop production was reduced mainly as a result of unfavourable climatic conditions," reveals the press release from the INS.

Overall, Romania's agricultural production accounts for 4% of the EU's total, which is worth over 392.3 billion euros, according to eurosstat.

The largest contributions correspond to France (18% of the EU's total), Germany (13%), Italy (12.3%), Spain (10.47%) and the UK (7.8%).
