Why would we put a mirror in the garden? We know what mirrors are for: To look at ourselves briefly before we go out. But since they reflect the world around them let's put them in the garden and discover new depths of our favorite outdoor space. If you take a simple rectangular mirror and put it on the wall of your shed, a new world will emerge. The nature around you will be reflected in it, along with with birds and other creatures that live there, and it will create a sense of depth that you didn't have before.
So, it works the same as it works inside when you use it to visually enlarge your rooms. And just like the inside, you may go for something more interesting than a rectangle to create what your heart desires. Art deco, for example, is always interesting, and all variants derived from it. Simple, a bit understated, but still elegant and visually interesting. A typical form would be a circle embellished with a few additional elements, and it will create a window to a new garden life you haven't seen before.
But why stop there? Do a step further and choose something mobile like this arched frame mirror that reminds us of French castles and their windows. You can put it anywhere you want and move it around to create a new picture of your garden when you like. Or you may have two of them and play with their position to enhance your visuall experience even further. Choose different frame colors and you have a design toy to play with and enjoy for a long time.
Or you can go to a totally different and unexpected way which is a great thing to do when it's about design. There are window shutter style outdoor mirrors that look just like a house window but with a mirror in the center. That will absolutely create a sense of a window into some other garden, a world of its own. The combination of a mirror and shutters is something nobody would expect but designers are there precisely because of that: to create something new that makes us happy. And this garden mirror will. ■
