Simple ideas are often the most brilliant ones. That's the case with between-the-glass blinds.

Blinds and shades are nececssary if you want some privacy and don't want classic curtains, or if you are in the office, or want something to diminish the light coming through your doors. Some people took double glass windows and doors, or double glazed windows as some people call them, and put blinds between them, permanently sealed between panes of insulating glass. That has some advantages and disadvantages, but advantages are so nice that you should think about them.
First, there's no painful cleaning. When you have shades or blinds, you must clean them regularly and that may be, and usually is, a pain. With between-the-glass blinds there is no such worry, the dust won't reach them and they will stay as clean as the first day you got them. We already see a big smile on the face of anyone who's job is to keep the house clean. The fact that you have one serface less to collect dust would be enough to think about that kind of shades.
So, how do you operate them? There is a magnetic slider on the edge of the glass. When you slide it up or down, the blind is going up and down. So, there are no external parts, just a magnet that works through the glass. That way you have a control that moves smoothly and if you ever tried to open your blinds to a desired level and "that thing won't to stay in place!", you will appreciate the control. And since it is a magnet, there's nothing to loose or break down, so no fix needed. Ever.
There are some drawback to that system. Windows with integral blind are, naturally, more expensive than regular windows, but that's not so much and keep in mind that you'll have less worries in the long term. Another drawback is that there is no filler gases between glass, so those windows may have a lower protection from outside elements, but then again, that's not crucial. Taking all into account, if you have to change your windows or patio doors, think about that nice system of integral blinds. ■
