So, it deserves to be embellished to the max. Second, the kitchen is the perfect place for rustic details, from stove curtains to furniture to an old kitchen sink. As always, here's the rule and how to break it. The rule: Use wooden elements, from kitchen sink to drawers and shelves to get that warm and inviting feeling. How to break it: Use any amount of wood you like, maybe just one element, maybe all of them, as long as you are happy with it.
Now, let's jump into your bathroom. This is another room where massive, rustic furniture fits naturally. To get a touch of elegance choose dark wood from top to bottom, and make sure it has some visible texture on it. It is easy to find a rustic ceramic sink, so add it too. On top of that, visit backyard sales and you'll find an old mirror and water pipes in no time. That's all you need. Since everything is dark don't go too far with details and you're good.
A few steps down the hall, there is your bedroom. There you don't have to change much, you can keep the style it already is in, so we'll add just one detail albeit a bigger one: ladders. People like to have some things near the bed and with time a clock gets a book as a companion, then glasses step in, then few magazines... And you have a mess in no time. To avoid that, use ladders as a perfect vertical nightstand that has a rustic touch. You can find old ladders easily and you don't have to do absolutely anything, just set it down and enjoy.
And now your living room. You designed it to your own taste, we have no doubt about it, but the beauty of rustic design is that it fits any kind of space easily. If you don't want to change much take one piece just make sure it's big because it should be a focal point of your living room. Instead of an easy solution - an old coffee desk - use an old suitcase! It's functional, it's rustic and it simply invites you to tell a story or two reminiscing old times when you were anywhere but home. Now is the time to bring all those memories back home. ■
