Today, the name of James Tufenkian is the synonym for beautiful carpets and the most important of all the symbol for the charity work. After he finished law school, Tufenkian took a trip to Nepal where he met Tsetan Gyurman, Tibetian emigrate and master weaver who produced the finest and most beautiful carpets in his atelier. What started as an accidental meeting turned to be a deep friendship, and friendship arose to the partnership.
In 1986 James Tufenkian employed 100 workers and founded Tufenkian Artisan carpets in New York. In 1993 he expanded his business to Armenia, the country where he was born. In 1995 he opened a medical centre in Nepal to provide modern medicine to its employees, and the year later he launched a collection of exclusive design carpets.
For most people that will be enough considered that he lived in metropolis New York, million miles away from south Asia. But, that was just the beginning of its plans. The Tufenkian Foundation began to work in 1999 with goal to benefit people in Armenia and Nepal. In 2001 he introduced Armenia's first luxury boutique hotel and soon after that two more hotels to help Armenia to become not just lovely but also a stylish tourist destination.
In the meantime Tufenkian carpets found their way to demanding world market. Today you may choose between traditional and modern style or designer's one. Tufenkian make his carpets from 100 percent Tibetan and Armenian wool and silk which ensures high quality. But carpets are not just the materials. To become a perfect decoration for your home they need a designer's hand. Three designers found their inspiration in Asian culture and its heritage and they created pieces that transfer that atmosphere into your homes.
You can choose between three Tufenkian's collections: Armenian, Tibetan and Designers' Reserve. Each of them has its own story, people and culture, colours, hopes, moods and aspirations. All of that will enter your home together with your Tufenkian carpet. Make them feel welcomed.
You can find Tufenkian Artisan carpets in Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York City and in Portland.[break] ■
