French consumer confidence edges higher in August
INSEE's barometre of consumer spirits rose from 96 in July to 97 in August, with a sub-index tracking their personal finances in the past rising from -28 to -21, while their outlook for the same was steady at -10.
Another sub-index referencing their ability to save edged higher from 8 in July to 10 in August.
However, sub-indices linked to living standards in France, both past and present, showed some deterioration.
Frenchmen also grew more pessimistic regarding the outlook for unemployment, with the corresponding sub-index rising from 26 to 34. ■
