If you like to start the New Year literally in style then visit 6th Cannes Shopping Festival which takes place in Cannes from 8th to 11th January. During the festival Cannes will open its doors not only to fashion and other professionals but also to visitors who will be able to look and to buy famous world brands.

Welcome on board of The London International Boat Show, one of the biggest boats shows in the world that take place in ExCel Centre from 9th to 18th January. Organizers predict that this year show will welcome more than 135,000 people and promise a good time for all. For this year they prepared the brand new indoor pool, so be ready to be wet.

Join the party and see everything, from multi-million pound worth cruisers to Royal Navy vessels and dinghies. Of course, take a look at the latest clothing design from some of the top names like Musto, Gill and Quba.Some of the Britain's boating heroes will also visit the show. So, hear some inspirational stories or learn some facts. More than 500 exhibitors will participate this year on The London Boat Show and that is one more reason to spend a day in ExCel Centre.

Sumo wrestling is one of Japan's amazing spectacles. From 11th to 25th January visit Kokugikan Sumo Hall for the January Basho, one of the year's six Grand Tournaments. Wrestlers of the highest class present themselves traditionally dressed in kesho-mawashi, sumptuously handmade ceremonial clothes decorated with diamonds, pearls and other precious stones which prices sometimes exceed 16.000 Euros.

A long evaluating of the opponent takes place before the battle, scattering salt in wide arch, long patting and clapping while audience wait impatiently for wrestling to start. Very often battle ends after only a few seconds because one of the wrestlers touched the ground just with a finger tip or elbow, even because the hair or any other part of the body lean out outside of the ring.

January 16 - February 1, 2009

Men's World Handball Championship will be held in Croatia from 16th January to 1st February. This is the 21st Championship, the biggest handball competition with the tradition 71 year long. Osijek, Varazdin, Zagreb, Porec, Pula, Zadar and Split are host cities for strong teams wishing the most precious handball medal. The teams of Sweden and Romania are legendary - they won the world titles four times. Russia (USSR) follows with three winnings, while the Croatia has respectable reputation: from the gold on European Championship to the Olympics gold. We shall see who will win the medals this year. So, if you like handball come to Croatia and enjoy the best handball on the planet, and if you don't, don't worry - you'll fell in love with it. See you.
