Philadelphia, Pa., USA - January 27, 2010, Philadelphia, Pa., USA - Francis P. Newell, a veteran civil and criminal antitrust litigator, has joined Cozen O’Connor as co-chair of the firm’s antitrust & trade regulation practice group.

Mr. Newell previously practiced at Harkins Cunningham LLP. Mr. Newell has been consistently recognized as one of America’s premier antitrust practitioners by both peers and clients. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and is praised for both his “solid antitrust background†and “good, practical advice†in Chambers USA – America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. Mr. Newell also has been recognized as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer.
Earlier in his career, the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice selected Mr. Newell for its Honors Program, and he received the Attorney General's Outstanding Performance Award for his service as a Trial Attorney in the Antitrust Division’s Washington, D.C. headquarters.
Mr. Newell has successfully represented major domestic and international companies in the banking, manufacturing, airline, pharmaceutical, health care, software licensing, environmental and agricultural industries, among others. He is frequently called upon to provide antitrust counseling in a variety of contexts. Mr. Newell also conducts internal corporate investigations, advises companies and individuals subject to grand jury investigations and negotiates on clients’ behalf with federal and state regulatory agencies.
Mr. Newell has served on the transition team of Pennsylvania’s Attorney General, focusing on antitrust issues. Newell also is Chairman of the Local Rules Advisory Committee for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, as well as a member of its Civil Justice Reform Act Advisory Group, and Vice President and member of the Board of Directors for its Historical Society.
Mr. Newell’s Bar Association activities have included service as an elected member of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Board of Governors, Parliamentarian of the Board, and Chairman of the Federal Courts Committee. He also has served as a member of the House of Delegates of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and is a past President of the Brehon Law Society. ■
