Hitachi appoints chairman

Tokyo, Japan - June 25, 2012, Tokyo, Japan - Hitachi, Ltd. announced that it has appointed 12 new board members and named Takashi Kawamura as chairman of the board.

Mr. Kawamura joined Hitachi, Ltd. in 1962 and was appointed division Manager of Thermal Power Engineering Division, Power Group in 1987. In 1992 he was named General Manager of Hitachi Works and three years after that he became Director and Group Executive of Electric Utility Sales Operations Group.

In 1997 Mr. Kawamura started to serve as Executive Managing Director and Group Executive of Power Group. Two years later he was promoted to Executive Vice President and Representative Director, and to director in 2003. Mr. Kawamura was appointed as Chairman of the Board and Representative Executive Officer, Hitachi Software Engineering Co. in 2003, and Chairman of the Board of Hitachi Plant Technologies in 2005.

In 2006. Mr. Kawamura was appointed Chairman of the Board at Hitachi Software Engineering Co., and in 2007 he was elevated to the position of Chairman of the Board, Hitachi Maxell; and Chairman Emeritus, Hitachi Software Engineering Co. Mr. Kawamura became epresentative Executive Officer, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer in 2009.

Mr. Kawamura graduated from Electrical Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering, Tokyo University.
