Ms. Villareal started as an associate in the Dallas Office in early 1982, shortly after the Dallas Office was opened and after completing a clerkship with Judge H. Barefoot Sanders where she worked on the Dallas school desegregation case. She was the first partner named by Jones Day in Dallas who started with the Firm and she has extensive ties to the Dallas legal community and to the Firm.
Over the past several years, Ms. Villareal, as co-head of Jones Day's Securities Litigation & SEC Enforcement Practice, has overseen the expansion of the Practice in Dallas and Houston into the largest securities litigation practice in the Southwest and into one of the Firm’s marquee practices. In September 2010, the BTI Consulting Group named Jones Day as one of only two Securities Litigation Powerhouses.
Most recently, Ms. Villareal was the lead securities litigation lawyer in the successful hostile tender defense by Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan, Inc. against BHP Billiton's $40-billion hostile takeover bid earlier this year. She has also been the lead lawyer for Dell and EDS in securities and derivative litigation they and their directors and officers faced in the past six years.
Ms. Villareal lectures frequently on securities litigation and corporate governance matters and has been recognized for several years as a leading lawyer by Chambers, Best Lawyers in America, Texas Monthly, D Magazine, and Lawdragon. ■
The main thing making weather headlines Friday and into the weekend will be the widespread coverage of showers and thunderstorms across much of the central and eastern U.S., with a particular focus across southeast Texas, the Mid-South, and portions of Virginia.
