Mauritius
Mauritius lies in the heart of the Indian Ocean some 500 miles east from Madagascar. Mauritius is one of the most over-populated countries and for its strategic "Space route" position in the past it earned the title "Star and Key of the Indian ocean". This most beautiful tropical island earned its wealt on sugar cane and today it is relatively independent of foreign capital. In Mauritius live several nationalities: Chinese, European, Indian and African, and all of them contributed to the island's traditions, lifestyle and hospitality.
Settle yourself on the northern coast in Royal Palm, the most prestigious hotel in Mauritius, a member of the "Leading Hotels of the World". There you will enjoy in la grande cuisine, discreet service, Mauritius hospitality and true luxury. Beautiful beach and landscape will be perfect "the cream on the cake". One notice: behind the hotel are two discos. If your ears are more sensitive you may be distracted by loud music.
If you decide to walk to see villages or towns, dress properly. This stands true especially for the ladies, for Mauritius women are very conservative and men are not used to see skin in the daylight. So, pay attention to that detail.
Visit Grand Bay, shopping and leisure paradise and find some restaurant with home atmosphere. Try to find The Spinnaker’s Concept Bar. The Spinnaker's is visited mostly by local people, as we understand, but the quality of a food is high and prices are very reasonable. The owner likes to watch sports on TV, so one big Hurray! for the restaurant.
Canary Islands
Seven major islands, several small islands and one minor island form the Canary Islands. Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria share the status of capital cities. This week we lead you to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria that enjoy "the best climate in the world".
Put your stuff in The Melia Las Palmas hotel, perfectly located alongside Las Canteras beach, one of the three beautiful beaches. The hotel is situated near Vegueta District decorated in true Canarian style and rich with majestic stone buildings, paved streets and fountains where you will have a good time in walking and sightseeing. From that point some six kilometres from the city lies 18 hole golf course Cortijo Golf Club nested among six lakes and if we add to that the most spectacular view to the sea that makes the game even more attractive. I just read how one golf player from Hong Kong sue the other player for 7,3 million dollars because he got a golf ball in the head. Now I understand better why only wealthy folks play golf. So, choose your golf partner carefully or enhance your golf skills, what suits you more.
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is rich with historic buildings, so start sightseeing with Cathedral, then visit the house of famous Genoese traveller, Christopher Columbus and finish visiting with an avant-garde art exhibition in Atlantic Centre for Modern Art. Of course, there are more choices but you will make your own research when you arrive "on the face of the place".
Listen salsa music in some night club, but be sure that your head is clear in the morning for a golf match. Watch your own head, too. ■
A low pressure wave forming along a cold front will track across the New England coast this morning, bringing a period of rain, heavy at times for much of New England, especially for Maine today.
