295 billion litres more milk needed by 2030
IFCN have created the projection using consumption and population trends, AHDB reports.
Global population is expected to increase by 1.2 bn consumers over the coming 13 years, while consumption per capita is also expected to increase from 116kg of ME# per year to 135.
In order to satisfy this growing demand, the global dairy herd is expected to increase by 12%, with milk yields improving to fill the gap. Milk production is expected to increase across the globe, but south Asia is expected to see the largest rise (up 64%). The increase in Western Europe is expected to be a more modest 14%. ■
